What takes place during a session?

During our first visit, well review your horses level of physical activity and discuss the areas youd most like to focus onEach session includes the use of a thermal imaging camera to identify heat and inflammation, which often indicate an injury or compromised areaWe take extra time to ensure your horse feels comfortable throughout the processThe number of areas treated will be determined based on thermal imaging results or your horses health history, ensuring a customized and targeted approach for optimal care.

The handheld cryo device is connected to a 20lb Cotank by a long hose and when in use, makes a gentle whooshing noiseA cool mist envelops the area being treatedHorses that are regularly handled or accustomed to bathing, clippers, or vacuuming usually don’t mind the sound.

The cryo device comes with four different nozzle heads, each designed for a specific purposeIf your horse shows any signs of nervousness, we’ll switch to a noiseless cold press (domenozzle to ensure a calm and positive experience.

Which areas of my horse’s body can benefit from cryotherapy?

Your horse can benefit from cryotherapy in any area with muscles, tendons, ligaments, or jointsRegularly worked horses often generate more friction in these areas, leading to increased heat and inflammation.

To reduce strains, pain, or tears, the most common areas treated are the lower legs, including the hocks and stifles, as well as the back, SI region, neck, and shoulders.

How often should my horse be treated?

Cryotherapy treatments are most effective when used consistently, as they enhance the body’s natural healing process and have a cumulative effectThe frequency of treatments will depend on whether your horse is dealing with an acute or chronic issue or if you’re using cryotherapy as a preventative measureFor acute injuries, 3-5 sessions per week are typically recommended for two weeksChronic issues may require 2-3 sessions per week until improvement is seenAs a preventative measure, we recommend 1-2 sessions per week.

How do I prepare for a session?

To provide the most accurate thermal readings and effective cryotherapy treatments, please follow these preparation steps:

  1. Have your horse in the barn/stall, dry, clean, and free of mud.  It is very important that your horse’s coat be dry and free of moisture
  2. Do not bathe your horse on the day of the appointment.
  3. Do not use hoof paint, oil, fly spray, or coat conditioner.
  4. Remove any type of sheet, blanket, or leg coverings.

Please ensure that you are present and prepared to hold your horse in a dry, safe, and open space, whether indoors or outdoors.

Will cryotherapy treatments affect my horse’s show schedule?

You can use cryotherapy at any time prior to most shows, however, as of 2022, FEI regulations specifically address the use of localized equine cryotherapy devices and limit its use to 5 days prior to an event.

Horse owners and riders are strongly encouraged to consult relevant regulatory bodies and veterinarians. This ensures that the application of localized equine cryotherapy aligns with current regulations, avoiding any violations of anti-doping rules or competition prohibitions.  In summary, localized equine cryotherapy offers a range of benefits, including pain relief, reduced inflammation, and accelerated recovery.

What is your cancellation policy?

To ensure fair scheduling, we require at least 24 hours’ notice for any cancellations or rescheduling of cryotherapy services. Cancellations made within less than 24 hours may be subject to a fee of 50% of the service cost. No-shows will be charged the full service fee. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
